A solid, relatable connection to your audience is what’s going to get them to follow you.

At least that’s something I learned and started implementing in just about everything I do.

I used to be a pretty bland writer.

I would ask for feedback on Get Good At Badminton and that would be one of the responses I get.

“I like your content and such, but you need to have a more engaging hook. After reading your first few paragraphs, I didn’t really want to read any further. Personally, I would tell a story or something to engage your reader more.”

That was really great advice and it was a good thing that I wasn’t so full of ego as I listened to it and improved some of my posts.

As I continued along my blogging journey, there were plenty of sources around me saying that I should be including story-telling into my posts.

In school, we were studying Malcolm Gladwell and what makes his essays so successful. One of the literary devices Gladwell consistently used were anecdotes, or otherwise known as small accounts of stories.

Steven Larsen was talking about how marketing was basically story-telling.

I didn’t understand why using stories made concepts memorable or caused people to join…
